Addresses the negative influences that homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism may have had on your life,
Offers an inclusive therapeutic space using affirmative language and correct terminology on all paperwork and in all interactions (e.g. in relation to your preferred name, gender identity, sexual orientation, relationship status),
Acknowledges that each individual has a unique story related to personal discovery and disclosure of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity; your story matters in the therapeutic setting and is what we will be working with together,
Does not resort to heteronormative assumptions, asking you instead,
Lives an affirmative life, personally and professionally, as an ally for the LGBTQ community by challenging oppression, micro-aggressions, heterosexism and the gender binary,
Reflects on her own upbringing as a cisgender heterosexual woman, acknowledging areas of privilege and/or bias stemming from living in a heteronormative and gender-binaristic society,
Regularly undertakes LGBTQ-affirmative continuing education trainings and resources for clinical practice.
